After five equally entertaining sets at the Greenman Rising Finals at Clwb Ifor Bach, indie pop band Tall Child came out victorious with their nostalgic soundscapes with poetically vulnerable lyrics.

The queer London based band performed alongside Welsh band Cyn Cwsg, Kiosk, Glasshouse Red Spider Mite and The Slow Country each bringing something different to the stage with their own unique sounds, the aim to win the opportunity to record a live session at the festival, release a dinked edition vinyl and to open Greenman’s magnificent mountain stage which this year will see performances from Wolf Alice, Four Tet, Wilco and more.
With a selection of industry experts judging the competition, and Radio 6’s Huw Stephens hosting, the night also gave each band the chance to get their music heard by the pros and help them break through into the industry. Bestowed with the tough decision of selecting the winner were
Ben Coleman - (Green Man / Glastonbury)
Fabian Phipps - (Intersect MGMT)
Hayley Moss - (Communion One)
Joanie Eaton - (Mexican Summer)
Natasha Youngs - (Resident Music / Dinked)
Piran Aston - (Now Wave)
Rupert Morrison - (Resident Music / Dinked)
Sarah Harvey - (Panic Shack)
Sophie Williams - (Billboard UK)
If you were lucky enough to hear a snippet of their sets at the competition, or haven’t had the chance to see them live, make sure to catch the runners up as they will all be performing on Greenman’s Rising stage.
The competition as well as Greenman’s Rising stage is an excellent opportunity for fans to discover their new favourite bands and support grass roots bands in their careers. The rising stage never fails to draw a hefty crowd every year which has seen performances from the likes of The Last Dinner Party, Sports team and English Teacher.
For those who weren’t able to get tickets to the repeatedly sold-out Greenman Festival, each of the bands are about and gigging across the country and are worth giving a follow to catch their upcoming performances at a venue near you.
