Rounding off their “Shadowlight Era” after the year of success that followed the Shadowlight album’s release in 2024, London based metalcore band Defences kicked off their UK headline tour last Thursday night at Rough Trade Bristol, supported by Twin Skeletons and Bitter Kisses.

All three bands feature passionate, talented front women and highlighted why women deserve their place in the male dominated world of metal music.

Defences frontwoman, Cherry Duesbury, delivered a gripping performance and even kept fans engaged through technical difficulties that halted the set. Backed by fierce vocalization by William Alex Young, Guitar by Calum Wilmot and drums by Kyle Parke, the band delivered great energy and fans enjoyed Defences’ on-stage chemistry, melodic riffs and meaningful lyrics.

The night ended with fans buzzing in the foyer of Rough Trade chatting with band members after an excellent show.
