Scottish rock icons, Biffy Clyro, will return to Wales this summer to headline a huge outdoor show at TK Maxx presents Depot Live at Cardiff Castle.
Biffy Clyro are currently racking up rave reviews for ‘The Futique Tour’ playing huge shows across the UK, Europe, Australia and New Zealand, highlighting why they are one of the UK’s most celebrated live acts. We attended their album release show over in The Prospect Building in Bristol back in October, followed by their show at Utilita Arena, Cardiff last month. We’re here to break down the new album for you in preparation for their next big summer show - here are our favourite songs…

With 11 tracks in total, the album starts with a single release, ‘A Little Love.’ This song title has been dominating their merchandise at recent shows and honestly, it deserves to be. This song is the perfect start to the album and also perfect start to their setlist. It reminds me ever so slightly of ‘The Captain’, where it’s partly chilled, partly mosh out vibes. The chorus is something to scream into the void - “With a little love, if you want it, we can conquer it all. With a little love, if you’re honest, we can defeat them all.”
Need a little more of a calm song? Get listening to ‘True Believer’. Pysch! You think Biffy has a calm song? Opening with such a great line and hard guitar riffs in the chorus, this is one that was immediately added to my playlist. “How about now? Do you want to be forgiven for the fucking millionth time?”
Want some more guitar riffs and drums? ‘Friendshipping’ is for you. It weirdly feels like it mixes a little bit of old school Arctic Monkeys at the start but stick with it. “Friendships come and friendships go. Some we miss and some we don’t.”
Another big recommendation which sounds like the true Biffy Clyro we know and love; ‘It’s Chemical!’ “These dreams are not chemical. They’re only coming straight from the heart.” One thing I have noticed with this album is, yes, the lyrics are quite simple, however, they are incredibly relatable. Especially for those who started out with Biffy as young teens and are now in their 30s.
Ending the album with a short instrumental to the song is what we all want. ‘Two People in Love’ has a different feel to the rest of the album. It doesn’t make you want to head bang but it does make you want to hold your hands high in the sky and sing along with Simon Neil, while we listen to his Scottish accent strongly through these words. “Something’s in the way. It’s more than I can take.” - hearing these lyrics in a Scottish accent is probably my favourite thing about this entire album.
Tickets for their Cardiff Castle summer show on July 30th go on sale this Friday from from depotlive.co.uk and ticketmaster.co.uk
